Did you ever wonder why so many people today are receiving Botox treatments? Well, it is not just a result of superficial whims. The more intense sunlight that we see these days has increased the amount of lines and wrinkles that develop on our faces.

Dr Mariusz of Star Cosmetic Medicine in Sydney, Australia, says that as a result of this more intense sunlight, our skin is aging more prematurely, and we are also caused to squint more, which causes wrinkling around the eyes.

According to Dr Gajewski, skin aging has three central causes. Firstly, there is the assault of the sun on the collagen and elastin fibres in your skin that keep it firm and smooth. Next, the sun’s UV rays cause modifications to skin texture and pigmentation. And finally, the apparent movement of muscles below the skin’s surface that add to the lines.

While good quality sun protection helps to prevent the first two issues, the only thing – thus far – that helps the influence of muscle movement making facial lines is Botox.

Botox injections can be had on all areas of the face, but the most frequents ones are the “frown point” between the eyebrows, the outer corner of the eyes, and the upper part of the forehead. Depending on your age, and how much time you spend in the sun, you may have already noticed these problem areas on your own face.

For some people the lines merely show when they are making certain facial expressions, and for other people they show permanently. However, once lines and wrinkles have started to develop as part of some facial expressions, the facial muscles will begin to adapt and before long they will probably be permenant.

It is a relatively quick and simple procedure to have botox injection to improve your looks. After having a series of small injections, administered by a doctor, in your affected facial areas, you are free to go home the same day. If you have just mild lines and wrinkles, you may only need just one round of injections; though you may need to visit your botox doctor several times if you have lots of lines or wrinkles, of if they are quite deep.

As for side effects, they are little more than minor. Dr Mariusz Gajewski says you should be prepared for slight swelling and temporary bruising. They are uncomfortable, rather than painful, and last for just a day or two after having a set of botox injections.

The only real problem with botox injections is when they are over used, so act with caution. Having the right amount of treatment will leave you looking fresher and revitalized, but have too much and you will look somewhat plastic and inexpressive.

If you would like Botox injections, remember that you need someone with the expertise and experience to determine where and how much to inject. Dr Mariusz Gajewski of Sydney’s Star Cosmetic Medicine suggests asking your GP or dermatologist for a recommendation.
